What do I need to give you to quote my PCB assembly service?

The minimum we need is:

.: Quantity of boards for assembly.

.: A complete Bill of Materials (BOM) with manufacturer's part numbers and/or a good description for every line item.

.: Any special assembly notes or requirements such as who will supply what components, lead or lead-free etc.

.: If we are to supply bare PCB's, a full set of gerber's with drill data.

.: Any additional electronic data is helpful though not required (Assembly drawings, PCB files i.e. Altium, Mentor Graphics, Eagle).

Do you provide RoHS lead free assembly?

Yes, all of the services provided by PMS are available as lead-free.

Can you supply PCB's and components?

Yes, we provide both full and partial turnkey services of materials, we only use authorised and reputable suppliers of components (no grey-market parts).

I have an urgent assembly requirement, can you do quick turn?

Yes we can! We have had cases where customers have dropped off a kit to us and we have made delivery that same day.

At PMS we pride ourselves on our quick turnaround, we will work with you to ensure prompt delivery. Contact us today to make an enquiry.

Do you accept parts in cut-tape and loose format?

Yes, for prototypes and low volume builds this is fine. For higher build quantities we require a strip at least 300mm long for use in our machines

What manufacturing standards do you build to?

We assemble products according to customer specifications and to IPC-A-610 Class II & III

Do you provide any manufacturability feedback after completing a job?

We provide a DFM report for all new products assembled at PMS.  If you would like a pre-job review, contact us and one of our Process Engineers will review your product.

What is the minimum and maximum order quantity you will accept?

We will accept any order from one unit through to around ten thousand units.

What is your lead time for assembly?

Our typical lead time for assembly is one week from receipt of materials.

What size PCB can you assemble?

We can assemble up to 400mm x 400mm without any difficulty.  Larger PCBs can be populated but please call us first to discuss.

I have parts which are moisture sensitive, can you bake them for me?

For a small fee we are able to bake your components and seal them in a moisture barrier bag with desiccant.

What is a PCB?

A PCB is a printed circuit board, also known as a printed wiring board. It is used in electronics to build electronic devices. A PCB serves two purposes in the construction of an electronic device; it is a place to mount the components and it provides the means of electrical connection between the components.  A PCB populated with electronic components is a printed circuit assembly (PCA), also known as a printed circuit board assembly (PCBA).

What is Contract Manufacturing?

A contract manufacturer (CM) is a manufacturer that contracts with a firm for components or products.

It is a form of outsourcing and is beneficial to all companies involved; each company can focus on their core competencies.  This allows our customers to focus their efforts on the design, marketing, sales and other essential business aspects rather than bearing the burden of running a manufacturing facility.

Some of the benefits of contract manufacturing are:

  • Cost Savings - Companies save on their cost of capital because they do not have to pay for a facility and the equipment needed for production.  They can also save on labour costs such as wages and training, there are no production wages to pay during quiet periods.
  • Advanced Skills - Companies can take advantage of skills they may not possess, but the contract manufacturer does.  The main focus of PMS is electronic assembly, we are continuously improving our production methods to make gains in quality and efficiency.
  • Cash flow - with an approved credit application customers can enjoy up to 50 days to pay after receiving goods.
  • Economies of Scale - We have multiple customers which we produce for and are making purchases for components and circuit boards multiple times a week, because of this we can offer reduced rates in acquiring raw materials and reduced shipping costs.
