- Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies illustrates the internationally
accepeted requriements for many types of solder connections
and assembly hardware.
Surface
mount solder joint requirements are divided into 3 classes
depending on the ultimate use, life expectancy and operating
environment of the electronic assembly. These classes are
as follows :
Class
1 - General Electronic Products
Products
suitable for applications where the major requirement
is how it functions, not necessarily extended life, reliability
of serice or cosmetic perfection.
Class
2 - Dedicated Service Electonic Products
Products
where continued performance and extended life is required
and for which uninterrupted service is desired but not
critical.
Class
3 - High Performance Electronic Products
Products
where continued high performance or performance-on-demand
is critical, equipment downtime cannot be tolerated, end-use
environment may be uncommonly harsh, and the equipment
must fuction when required, such as for life-support,
flight control and other high-reliability systems.
All
